Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Rapper Alfred Banks Perform at Ashé Power House Theater

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the region’s premier and GRAMMY Award-winning orchestra, presents the final concert in its 23-24 Music at the Museum series – ALFRED BANKS & INTRODUCING SEBASTIAN ST. JOHN – on Thursday, May 8, at the Ashe’ Power House Theater at 6 p.m. New Orleans native and Grammy nominated rapper Alfred Banks makes his LPO debut in a program featuring original works with a world premiere arrangement by Sebastian St. John. LPO musicians will also perform works by South Side Symphony founder and composer Marcus Norris, groundbreaking composer and pianist Max Richter, and New Orleans composer and musician Charles Lumar II. For more information, visit www.lpomusic.com.

MUSIC AT THE MUSEUM: ALFRED BANKS & INTRODUCING SEBASTIAN ST. JOHN continues LPO’s local collaboration initiative – giving a platform to local artists, musicians, and composers to showcase the extraordinary talent represented in our community. Opening the program is Charles Lumar II’s New Orleans premiere of “Elaine Sun” created in partnership with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Max Richter’s “On the Nature of Daylight” is a cinematic composition that has been featured in television shows and various films including Stranger than Fiction (2006) and Shutter Island (2010). Having orchestrated for Beyoncé and Ms. Tina Knowles, composer Marcus Norris’s cross-genre mastery is reflected in his work “My Idols Are Dead” – known for its innovation and creativity. Closing the program is multi-award-winning rapper Alfred Banks with selections specially arranged for LPO musicians by composer Sebastian St. John. A star on the rise, Mr. Banks has garnered acclaim within the Hip Hop music industry with his songs being featured throughout television, film, and sports broadcasts.
