It is so easy to have a birthday party at home with an animal-themed room – we just happened to create one. We have five grandchildren, so we decided to redecorate an upstairs bedroom with the help of Kevin Gillentine and Vincent Bergeal. They painted the backdrop, and I resurrected the animal headboards that I made for our children more than 30 years ago. I added two new giraffes, Lowery’s favorites, and we were ready for his second birthday party!
We had a birthday cake, cupcakes, gummy worms and teddy bears, chocolate candies and pretzels. Each child got an animal bowl filled with ice cream, puppet washcloths, a small white box filled with toys and markers, all topped with fish sponges. They even got to take home lettuce and parsley to plant in their own gardens. We played games, sang songs and drew pictures. If you really want to go over the top, have the farm animals come visit – you can rent pigs, goats, turtles, chickens and more with which the children can play.
