NEW ORLEANS (press release) – On Tuesday, April 26, New Orleans City Park will welcome the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) as they present a free community concert, Swing in the Oaks, at the Peristyle.
Parkgoers are encouraged to bring their chairs or lawn blankets to experience an enchanting evening filled with musical scores such as Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet”, Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide”, Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” and many more conducted by Chelsea Gallo.
The free community concert begins at 5:45 p.m. with the LPO’s Music for Life String Orchestra followed by the Homer Plessy Community School, Bricolage Academy, and the world premiere of the Plessy Student Composers. At 7 p.m., the full orchestra takes the stage featuring pianist Dr. Quinn Peeper.
“This is a favorite event for many of our Park visitors,” said Cara Lambright, CEO of New Orleans City Park. “It is so gratifying to partner with the LPO to provide free and accessible cultural enrichment surrounded by the Park’s amazing green spaces to the community.”
“This is going to be a spectacular night,” said LPO Executive Director Anwar Nasir. “First, we get to show off the amazing talents of our young Music for Life composers and orchestra, and then, our adult musicians will perform some lively, recognizable pieces that will leave the audience in a great spirit.”
