Luna Press Debuts Two New Books in Time for the Holiday Season

Luna Press, a New Orleans-based publisher of illustrated books, is debuting two new, beautiful titles just in time for the holiday season: Lonely Voyagers (with images by Simon Blake and text by Dalt Wonk), and Structures of Reverie (with photographs by Josephine Sacabo). These two hardcover titles continue to further Luna Press’s mission of producing art books at a level of quality that is unique at such an approachable price point.

Founded in 2011, Luna Press is dedicated to publishing books that weave text and image together. This is the case with Lonely Voyagers, where images by New Orleans-based artist Simon Blake are paired with text by local author and illustrator Dalt Wonk. Blake has created intriguing, humorous pictures by piecing together illustrations from a 19th century French magazine, and Wonk has added intriguing, humorous captions with a result that is great fun for the reader.

Structures of Reverie, a new photo book from renowned photographer Josephine Sacabo, is dedicated to Juana La Loca, the supposed “mad” queen of Spain in the 16th century, who was imprisoned for political motives for 46 years until her death. Sacabo’s photographs reshape this tragic tale as the story of a woman who invents her freedom by creating an imaginary architecture of light, memory, hopes, and dreams.

“These books are extremely high quality — featuring fine papers, Smythe sewn bindings, foil-stamped cloth hardcovers, and custom fonts,” says Jacqueline Miró, Art Director of Luna Press. “The final book is the product of a seamless collaboration that best displays the artist’s intent, thus making the books works of art themselves. While the authors live in New Orleans, the subject matter appeals to both local and broader audiences,” she says.

Lonely Voyagers and Structures of Reverie join Luna Press’s growing catalogue of gorgeous illustrated and photographic books. In a recent article, Susan Larson, New Orleans’ beloved book aficionado and host of WWNO’s The Reading Life, said “Luna Press works in the tradition of artisanal publishing — the most gorgeous design, the best paper, the fine printing.” Luna Press’s books are inspired creations from conception through completion that are sure to be treasured for years to come.

Don’t miss a joint book signing with authors of both Lonely Voyagers and Structures of Reverie on Thursday, December 19, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Nadine Blake, 1036 Royal Street.
