Marigny Opera Ballet Premieres “A Streetcar Named Desire,” Feb. 24-26

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – On Feb. 24, Marigny Opera Ballet will host its world premiere of “A Streetcar Named Desire” at 725 St. Ferdinand St.

The Marigny Opera Ballet, now in its 9th season, premieres “A Streetcar Named Desire,” Feb. 24-26, at New Orleans’ historic Marigny Opera House. The full-length, two-act ballet has been created by noted choreographer Diogo de Lima, accompanied live to an orchestral score by New Orleans composer Tucker Fuller.

Based on the classic Tennessee Williams tragedy, and set in the 1940’s, the ballet traces the tale of Blanche Dubois, her sister Stella, and Stella’s husband Stanley, who find themselves enwrapped in a passionate tragedy in their apartment on Elysian Avenue.

“The Marigny Opera Ballet is no stranger to tragedy,” said Dave Hurlbert, artistic director. “Over the years we’ve presented Orfeo and Giselle Deslondes, two tragedies of the highest order. Streetcar is different. It’s close to home. Its setting is just nine blocks from the Marigny Opera House. Its characters are New Orleanians.”
