Sugar Bowl
The 73rd Sugar Bowl Football Classic will be held this year Jan. 3, at 7 p.m in the Superdome. Though tickets have sold out, you can still watch LSU vs. Notre Dame MARQUEEon TV and support your favorite neighborhood restaurant/bar at the same time! Art and Religion through the ages
Jan. 28-June 1, the Catholic Cultural Heritage Center of the Archdiocese of New Orleans will host the Exhibition of the Vatican Mosaic Studio at the Old Ursuline Convent. This is the first comprehensive exhibition of artwork from the Vatican Mosaic Studio, and it’s a beautiful celebration of history, art and religion; New Orleans is its only stop!

Throughout the duration of the exhibit, 37 mosaics will be displayed, representing an art form that dates back as far as the 15th century. The exhibit, which is titled “An Evolution of the Human Spirit As Seen Through Mosaic Art” will also include reproductions and mosaics depicting religious scenes and icons.

Show Boats
The 37th annual New Orleans Boat Show will take place this Jan. 10-14, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Hundreds of exhibitors will showcase the latest boats, motors and trailers from all over the country. The show will also display marine electronics, personal water crafts, fishing accessories and provide vacation destination information. Drawings will be held to give away a Blue Wave boat, a Yamaha motor and LOADMASTER trailer. Information, www.neworleansboatshow.com.

A Day of Food and Celebration
The Grand Ballroom at the Wyndham Hotel at Canal Place will host the Williams Research Center Symposium on Jan. 20.

The topic this year may spark some hearty N’awlins appetites – “Food for Thought: the Culinary Traditions of New Orleans, has attracted fascinating presenters such as food critic Tom Fitzmorris, with a taste of New Orleans’ numerous and well known restaurants; Jan Longone, with a presentation on cookbooks; and Susan Tucker and Wendy Woloson, who will discuss dessert and the popularity of sugar throughout history. MARQUEE“Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story,” Jan. 12-14, 19-24 & 26-28

The Music Lived!
Though Buddy Holly died tragically, his music did not, nor did the memory of his life. This month, the Jefferson Performing Arts Society will host “Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story” – a tribute to the late, iconic singer’s life and musical legacy.  Starring local actor Billy McGuigan as Buddy Holly and  John “Spud” McConnell of WWL Radio as his musical cohort the Big Bopper, the show is actually an encore of performances that ran in March of 2006. This performance, which is directed by Kris Shaw, is suitable for all ages and features many songs and dance numbers. The show will be held at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center in Metairie on weekends of Jan. 12-14, 19-21 and 26-28.  Information, 885-2000.

Honoring a Historical Figure
Jan. 20-March 25, the National World War II Museum will host a special exhibit dedicated to the life of Anne Frank. Developed by the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, Holland, the exhibit will be sponsored in North America by the Anne Frank Center USA. It will introduce visitors to the history of both World Wars and the Holocaust, from the perspective of the Frank family and others like them. The provocative exhibit will include personal photographs, some of which have never been seen before, as well as images of events that victimized millions during this time period.
