McHenry – Arant

We are so used to tumultuous stories that we can forget that true love can also be clear and simple. After Marion Emerson McHenry graduated from Southern Methodist University, she was enjoying life in Dallas, Texas. When Aaron Russell Arant walked up to her, called her by name and asked her how she was doing, she was surprised and instantly impressed.

Marion and Aaron shared a mutual friend and Aaron had done his homework, having found out the name of the girl who had caught his eye.

Fast forward two years later and Marion was standing in baggage claim in Louis Armstrong Airport, having returned home for Christmas. Marion and Aaron were still living in Texas and Marion believed Aaron was back in Dallas, so she was surprised again when she felt a tap on her shoulder and saw him standing there.

That same evening, Aaron took Marion to Southern Oaks Plantation and asked her to marry him.

Marion had always dreamed of a destination wedding and just assumed that she wouldn’t be able to find that place in her hometown of New Orleans.

It was her father who drove her to Longue Vue House and Gardens, and Marion instantly fell in love with the place. Having planted the seed, Marion’s father Lewis McHenry had to work really hard to secure the last day (there were only two) in 2016 that Longue Vue was available for a wedding.

That day was Saturday, November 12, 2016, when Marion and Aaron were married by Aaron’s grandfather, Robert Barks.

The wedding party had already enjoyed a wonderful rehearsal dinner the night before at Ralph’s on the Park, and Ralph’s also catered the sumptuous wedding feast that followed. Stations included charcuterie from St. James Cheese Company and an oyster bar with chefs preparing oysters raw, fried and charred.

Specialty cocktails were served, including the French 75 for Marion and the Old Fashioned for Aaron.

Event organizers Glenny Beahm and Anna Schaefer of Angle Events oversaw the proceedings and Giverny Designs executed the couple’s wish for the décor to appear organic to the historic location. From the flowers to the linens, everything reflected the beautiful style of Longue Vue,

Dancing began with the couple choosing “You Are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne for their first turn as husband and wife.
Marion and Aaron honeymooned at Sugar Beach in St. Lucia and returned to live in Dallas, where Marion is an E-Commerce Manager for Corporate Neiman Marcus and Aaron is a Finance and Accounting Recruitment Manager.
