Dr. Yasin Khan firmly believes that the highest-quality and most evidence-based patient care is closely integrated with a commitment to education and cutting-edge research. These values led him to the University Medical Center (UMC) in New Orleans, where he serves as the Medical Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Dr. Khan specializes in the most severe forms of acute respiratory failure and has curated his expertise in their care using mechanical ventilation and external heart-lung bypass machines, known as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. As an Assistant Professor at Tulane University, Dr. Khan is also an avid physician-scientist and has helped bring multiple trials of new therapies for respiratory failure to serve the ICU patients at UMC.
At UMC, Dr. Khan practices alongside twenty other world-class faculty intensivists from Tulane and LSU, as well as more than one hundred highly skilled nurses and allied health professionals. As a top-tier medical team, they care for three thousand of the most critically ill patients each year, accounting for one of the busiest ICUs in New Orleans.
