METAIRIE, La (press release) — Fat Boy’s Pizza is heading to Tigerland! The Metairie-based pizza giant that specializes in huge slices and 30-inch, New York-style pies will open on Nicholson Drive in August. Located across from Tiger Stadium, the Baton Rouge restaurant will welcome LSU students, alumni and pizza lovers of all ages.
“At Fat Boy’s Pizza, our slogan is Size Matters,” owner Gabe Corchiani said. “The people of Baton Rouge should get their appetites ready. One slice is enough for most people. Our 30-inch pies are too big to fit inside some cars. We can’t wait to bring our brand of great pizza and excitement to the Red Stick.”
Established in early 2019, Fat Boy’s Pizza quickly established itself as a vital part of the New Orleans-area community. In July 2019, Fat Boy’s hosted the first “Pizza Eating Championship” featuring world champion competitive eater Joey Chestnut and other top eaters. Since March, Fat Boy’s has delivered more than one thousand pizzas to our healthcare heroes on the frontlines of the Coronavirus pandemic response.
“Being part of the fabric of the community is a top priority for us,” Corchiani said. “We will dive into Baton Rouge headfirst and support schools, businesses and LSU athletics in every way possible. We can’t wait for this football season and every season after.”
In addition to the unmistakable slices and 30-inch pies, the two-foot pizza challenge is a Fat Boy’s staple. Competitors try to eat a two foot slice in seven minutes or less. It’s harder than it sounds.
Fat Boy’s Pizza is owned and operated by Gabe Corchiani, a former standout basketball player at the University of New Orleans. He was part of the first basketball team to make the NCAA Division I men’s tournament in 1987.
