Mister Mao To Host Tiki BBQ Pop-Up

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Since opening in July 2021, Mister Mao, the vibrant and lively restaurant from Chef Sophina Uong and husband/partner William “Wildcat” Greenwell, has earned praise for its “inauthentic” global cuisine, killer cocktails and funky atmosphere. Now, the tropical roadhouse will open its doors for a very special Tiki BBQ Pop-Up on Sunday, Nov. 14.

Popping up are two visiting Chefs certain to bring their own unique BBQ styles to New Orleans. Hipolito Sanchez, affectionately known as “The Mayor,” is Pitmaster/Owner of Chicago-based catering company Slow Motion for Meat, where he showcases his creative Mexican and Korean smoked, grilled, and fired meats. Sanchez, a beloved staple on Chicago’s culinary landscape and champion of multiple BBQ competitions, recently underwent two open heart surgeries. Uong and Greenwell are hosting this event to help with his health care costs.

John “The Legend” Haney, owner of Alveron BBQ Company in Charleston, South Carolina, builds custom grills and smokers, as well as operates a catering company. Specializing in Carolina BBQ, Hanley is known throughout the region for his finger-licking foods and custom-built equipment.

Priced at $75 per person (excluding tax and gratuity), the evening commences at 6 p.m. for Booze & Schmooze, which includes two (2) Dreamweaver Jungle Juice cocktails per person. Dinner, which begins promptly at 6:30PM, features communal Kings Table seating and includes the following:
