This weekend, there are many activities ideal for a Mother’s Day celebration or an afternoon excursion with friends. Saturday is particularly packed, with free family activities in downtown’s Parc Sans Souci, a beer celebration en Français at Vermilionville, a hibiscus planter workshop and an art celebration at the Lite Center! 5/11: Mommy and Me Kidsfest: This Saturday, Parc Sans Souci will host a free, family-friendly event on Saturday morning. The Mommy and Me Kidsfest will have various venders on site, like the hands-on teddy bear creation station Teddy Bear Mobile. Kids can also get acquainted with some wild animals at the Schoolhouse Safari and catch a performance from the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra. Raising Cane’s will be on site with lunch options. Kidsfest will go from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
5/11: Acadiana Brew HaHa: Vermilionville will have its inaugural Acadiana Brew HaHa this Saturday afternoon to celebrate locally made beer. Vermilionville will have various taste stations with samples from local micro- and nanobreweries. Brewers will conduct panel discussions and explain their practices, influences, and history while updating attendees on the Acadiana beer scene. The Acadiana BrewHaHa begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. with a performance from Jourdan Thibodeaux and the Rôdailleurs. Tickets are available at brownpapertickets.com.
5/11: Make and Take Hibiscus Planter for your mom (or you): All Seasons Nursery on Johnston Street will host this fun and productive workshop to make a present for your mom, with your mom, or just because. Attendees will learn proper planting and a combination of techniques for improved gardening! Children are welcome to join with the supervision of a parent. Admission is $20 per person. 5/11: Artcade 2019: The Academy of Interactive Entertainment will bring filmmakers, artists, musicians and game developers together Saturday for a free exhibition of interactive art at the Lite Center. This event will showcase local independent film, music, art and game development in Acadiana from 3-7 p.m. Food trucks Rise & Grind, Rob’s Rollin’ Café and C’est Bon Manger will be available.
5/12: Mother’s Day Drag Brunch: Social Entertainment will once again bring its uber popular Drag Queen Brunch to Jefferson St. Pub this Sunday to, as they promise, “treat mom like a queen this Mother’s Day.” A $25 advance ticket buys brunch, mimosas, and entertainment from brunch host Chicka Larouxge and Miss Gay Louisiana 2018 Kenli Andrews. Drag Brunch runs from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tickets are available at socialentertainment.net.
