More Art for More People

Art for Art’s Sake continues to grow.

An estimated 10,000 came out to celebrate Art for Art’s Sake at the Contemporary Arts Center and the Julia Street Block Party on Saturday, October 3, not to mention the many, many more who attended festivities throughout the Crescent City. The Official CAC Afterparty brought guests through the doors for one last hurrah.

Outside on Julia Street there was great “ART-mosphere:” four interactive installations were prepared for the event. Art lovers critiqued “The Fountain” by Generic Art Solutions, “WALK” by Marcus Brown and Nathan Weidenhaft, “Art Alive” by NOCCA alum Brandan Odums and “Inflatable Sculpture” by Addi Somekh (More of Somekh’s work will be on view at the CAC’s SweetArts Bash in January.).

For only $10, guests were allowed admission and permission to party in the CAC. “An Evening of World Music” included the Mardi Gras Indians rhythm section, Kora Konnection and N’Kafu Traditional African Dance.

The fundraising from the CAC and Julia Street Block Party allow the art mecca to continue its promise of a generous serving of arts. That includes those artistic endeavors of the visual and performance nature as well as educational components. The CAC reports that this year was a big success, all made possible by the curious-minded who came by to see some art.
