Mumford & Sons, Travis Scott and The Arctic Monkeys Lead Voodoo Fest

Voodoo Returns!

This weekend the Voodoo Music + Art Experience celebrates it’s 20th Ritual with an absolutely stacked lineup.

Your Friday headliners are Mumford & Sons and A Perfect Circle. While Mumford has been around a fair bit recently, a rare chance to see Tool’s Maynard James Keenan lead the art rock supergroup A Perfect Circle is not to be missed. I’ve seen some great performances from Rainbow Kitten Surprise this year and White Reaper and Mt. Joy are worth your time as well. Check out “Fever Pitch” by RKS below.

Saturday, Travis Scott will fill in for Childish Gambino, who is still recovering from his foot injury. ODESZA, Martin Garrix and Marilyn Manson round out the headliners. Janelle Monáe will be playing from her absolutely mesmerizing Dirty Computer record from earlier this year. Schmaltzcore impresario Tom Misch will drop in (I’m particularly excited about this one). We get a DJ set from Sofi Tukker and a set from Adrianne Lenker’s Big Thief project. As if that weren’t enough, alt hip-hop diva Lizzo will be at the festival as well. If you’re only able to make it out for one day, this is definitely the one. Check out Tom Misch below.

For me, Sunday is all about the Arctic Monkeys performance. Their new record Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino is one of the strangest and most compelling records of the year – it is a concept record depicting events at a luxury hotel on the moon. If you want to keep it weird make sure to catch Poppy’s set earlier in the day. Space Jesus and Sunflower Bean are well worth your time as well. I am also quite partial to The Suffers soul sound and they’re from just up the road in Houston. Below is a great recent video from the Arctic Monkeys.
