Mystic Krewe of Barkus King & Queen to Dine at Galatoire’s Friday

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – His Majesty King Petey Benson XXXII and Her Majesty Queen Ruthie Sable XXXII will have their traditional Friday lunch at the historic Galatoire’s Restaurant, Friday, Feb. 21, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Dressed in regal garments, King Petey and Queen Ruthie will be honored with champagne toasts and canine cuisine. The Galatoire’s staff will serve the royals their customary and lavish meal of lamb chops. King Petey, the son of Gayle and Tom Benson, is a striking Yorkshire Terrier with an attitude to match. Like many other Yorkies, his stature is small, but his personality is larger than life. Not lacking in confidence and utterly adorable with handsomely coiffed hair, he can seem cranky as he does not suffer fools lightly. Queen Ruthie Sable is a Foxhound-Dalmatian mix who identifies as a noun but lives fully at a verb energy level. She is the adopted daughter of Dr. Craig and Barb Sable of New Orleans by way of the Washington D.C. area. Her unwed and pregnant mother was found roaming on the side of the road and rescued, enabling her to give birth in the safety of a veterinarian’s clinic. Queen Ruthie is grateful that her bio mom had the courage to trust her two-legged saviors who enabled her mom and newborns to survive. After becoming a member of the Sable family, Queen Ruthie was catapulted into a life of opportunity. She attended the prestigious Your Dog’s Friend School in Maryland where she graduated with high honors after one year of kindergarten level studies. She clearly has proven academic abilities, but her social skills and poise make her shine.

The Krewe of Barkus will parade Sunday, Feb. 23, starting at 2 p.m. marching from Armstrong Park and proceeding through the French Quarter. This year’s theme is “Vanity Fur: Barkus Rules the Runway!” The pre-parade Pawty kicks off at 10:30 a.m. in Louis Armstrong Park. Curious observers are welcome to watch. All hail King Petey Benson and Queen Ruthie Sable!
