New and Returning Events and Activities in Acadiana

This week is a mixture of old and new. Returning favorite events, such as The Bayou Vermilion District Festival and Boat Parade and Tinsel & Treasures Market, will go down this weekend! Both events have been a Lafayette staple for years. New to the scene is a new market in Broussard, which will act as an indoor bazaar, and a new yoga event will make its debut in Opelousas. One event that combines both established and new is a certain Cajun band’s new documentary coinciding with their 20-year anniversary – and a killer show.

9/26 – 9/28: Tinsel & Treasures Market: Get a head start on holiday shopping at the Junior League of Lafayette’s annual market, Tinsel & Treasures, at the Cajundome this weekend! This weekend, the Cajundome will have numerous boutique-style vendors’ popups. Wares include jewelry, toys, home décor, food, apparel and more. Tickets are on sale now.

9/28: Bayou Vermilion District Festival and Boat Parade: This Saturday, dozens of paddlers in elaborately decorated kayaks and canoes will make their way down the Vermilion for the annual BVD Boat Parade! This year, the event kicks off at 8 a.m. at the Vermilionville Living History Museum, where paddlers will stage their crafts.  The parade sets sail at 11:30 a.m. and will wind down the Vermilion on a new route from previous years. For those who don’t paddle, post-parade activities like games, a live band, food and drink will be available at BVD’s Southside Park, where the route ends. If you can’t make it, watch the water Saturday.

9/28: Black Light Yoga Sound Healing: The Elite Academy of Dance in Opelousas will host a unique, holistic event Saturday night with black light yoga. Attendees will get their body painted by staff members to really glow during the gentle, 45-minute blacklight yoga flow. Guest DJ Pablo Zaldivar will play healing music for the event. Attendees are encouraged to wear white or light colors for the blacklight and to bring any glow-in-the-dark items they would like. An afterparty will follow, and the event will go until 11 p.m. Tickets are available here.

9/28: The Market at Broussard Grand Opening: A new indoor community market is coming to Broussard. This Saturday, the farmers’ market inspired market at Broussard Commons will feature handmade works and artisan crafts, like wood and metal art, glass creations, homemade quilts, baked goods, organic vegetables, and much more. The new market is located at 817M Albertson Parkway in Broussard.
