NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Beginning July 6, youth writing and publishing nonprofit 826 New Orleans will deliver everything your child needs to conceptualize, write and create a published book.
Located in the 7th Ward, 826 New Orleans provides free literacy and creative writing programs to youth ages 6-18, in schools and at their Writing Center. Since the pandemic, the organization has launched a variety of virtual and distanced activities, including last month’s Writing On The Wall program where over 70 young people published their writing on front doors around the city.
The latest program, Beaucoup Easy Books, was inspired by a young author in the 826 program. He said, “You would think making a book was hard, but it was beaucoup easy!”
Inspired by this message of accessibility, the 826 New Orleans team is bringing bookmaking to the homes of young people across the city. Kits include everything necessary to create a book, plus guidance on how to craft the writing.
There are two kits available: one for grades K-3 and one for grades 4-8. Families can sign up for bookmaking kits to be delivered to their homes at 826neworleans.org. Sign-ups are due by July 1, 2020. Kits will be delivered starting July 6.
