New Book "City Eats New Orleans" to Launch July 30 with Happy Hour

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – What restaurants matter in New Orleans right now? How has the city’s dining scene changed since the pandemic? Who are the chefs shaping what we love to eat?

Local food and travel writer Beth D’Addono will have this conversation once a month at happy hours with six different chefs/restaurateurs featured in her new book, “City Eats New Orleans” (Cider Mill Press/Harper Collins, July 2024, $22.99). The party kicks off July 30 with a conversation with Dakar Nola (James Beard Award, Best New Restaurant 2024) chef Serigne Mbaye. Each happy hour features drink specials, a cash bar and light nibbles from the chef.

Available online, at bookstores, and in specialty shops around New Orleans, “City Eats New Orleans” celebrates the multicultural influences and traditions that have inspired New Orleans’ cuisine.

“I have the best job in the world,” said D’Addono, who covers the New Orleans restaurant scene for outlets like Eater, Gambit, and The Local Palate. “There has been a big shift since the pandemic closed our hospitality industry. Sadly, we lost a lot of restaurants. But many chefs also found their voice, opening restaurants and taking a long overdue seat at the table. With this book, I wanted to dive deeper into what’s new, what we’re eating right now, and what will always matter.”

Profiling more than 50 chefs and restaurants, “City Eats New Orleans” highlights the traditions, trends and chef-driven recipes that illustrate why New Orleans is the best food city in America.

The schedule for the monthly happy hour is:

· July 30, 5-6 p.m.: Dakar Nola with Chef Serigne Mbaye and co-owner Effie Richardson
· August 21, 5-6 p.m.: Hermes Bar at Antoine’s with co-owner Lisa Blount
· Sept. 11, 5-6 p.m.: The Bower with Chef Marcus Woodham
· October 8, 5-6 p.m.: Mister Mao with Chef Sophina Uong
· Nov.13, 5-6 p.m.: King at Kimpton Hotel Fontenot with Chef Sam Peery
· Dec. 11, 5-6 p.m.: Polo Lounge at Windsor Court Hotel with Chef Vlad Cogan
