NEW ORLEANS (press release) – New Orleans’ newest art gallery, Speakeasy Art offers a COVID-safe way to view local artists’ works. This experimental art gallery will take place from Nov. 7 through the end of December. Patrons can schedule exclusive viewing experiences and discover both emerging and established artists from all of South Louisiana. And it stands to benefit a good cause.
“Speakeasy Art is a one-stop shop of unique paintings, prints, photography, jewelry, and sculpture works from over 15 emerging and established local artists.” says Gallery Director Sydney Prochaska “In the middle of long COVID drought of live arts events, Speakeasy Art provides a space for both safety and exclusivity.”
Sam Joffray, founder of the New Orleans Jr Journalism Program, was inspired to create the gallery as a fundraiser for the New Orleans Junior Journalism Program, whose after-school newsroom has been empty since the beginning of the pandemic. “I’ve always appreciated finding innovative ways to see non-profits fundraise. Not only does this temporary non- traditional use of our physical newsroom space support our organization and students while we work virtually, it creates a unique experimental platform to help support our local arts community during this challenging period.”
Located in the Central Business District on Magazine, Speakeasy Art provides an intimate and private gallery experience for a 45-minute private party of up to 4 guests. Operating hours are first come, first serve and must be booked online in advance. Reservations for private gallery viewings are $125 per appointment. Each reservation includes admission for up to 4 people and the selection of any one piece of work on display. Additional works may be purchased for $100. Artworks featured in Speakeasy Art typically retail for $70-500.
