NEW ORLEANS (press release) – New Orleans Rowing Club is proud to announce its recent accolades, as two local athletes were recently selected to represent the USA’s National Team. John and Hannah Huppi won the US Rowing Beach Sprint trials on June 19th in Sarasota, Florida and will compete on behalf of the United States in Portugal.

USRowing selected eight crews to represent the United States at the 2021 World Rowing Beach Sprints Finals at the first-ever Beach Sprints National Team Trials on South Lido Key Beach. The worldwide competition will take place in Portugal on September 24th through 26th.

In terms of the course that the John and Hannah championed out in Sarasota, the Beach Sprints consist of a 50-meter run to the beach where they launch their rowing boat, row for 250 meters around a buoy return, row another 250 meters back and then a final 50-meter running to the finish line. The team won the finals in a time of 2:32, which was 2.5 seconds faster than than the composite crew from Miami.

The championship-winning duo are both from New Orleans and regularly train on City Park’s Bayou St. John. They both attended Tulane and have been a part of the New Orleans Rowing Club for a number of years.

John and Hannah also regularly help raise money in our local community for a variety of causes, including of course, rowing education.

The New Orleans Rowing Club is a 501c3 nonprofit with year-round adult and youth programming. There is a fundraising element to the organization which can be found at www.neworleansrowingclub.org.
