New Orleans Antiques Forum Returns August 8-11

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The Historic New Orleans Collection’s (HNOC) 2024 New Orleans Antiques Forum, themed New Lives for Old Things: Refashioning Southern Material Culture, returns Aug. 8-11 and examines how the people of the Gulf South find ways to reuse and adapt older objects to fit new purposes.

In the dynamic world of evolving trends and artistic ingenuity, one truth remains constant: the past is never gone. Across the Gulf South, there’s a rich tradition of repurposing and reimagining older items to suit modern needs. Whether it’s the majestic Greek Revival mansions adorned with their iconic columns or the realm of fashion, each new generation recycles and revises historic aesthetics to suit its own time.

Sessions will address the reasons objects are given second lives – cultural heritage, economic necessity, sustainability – as well as the skills required for adaptive reuse – craft techniques and creative repair methods.

Registration for the 2024 New Orleans Antiques Forum is limited. Single-day registration is available for Friday, Saturday or Sunday, or attendees can register for the full forum at a discounted rate. Half-off single day tickets are available to young participants ages 21-30.
