New Orleans-Bound Part 1

New Orleans tops the list for most categories, from charm to best bars, when it comes to cities around the country. A list New Orleans is swiftly climbing is destination weddings. With the exposed brick, award-winning restaurants and historic charm, we are surprised it didn’t top the charts long ago.

One mission of Let Them Eat Cake is to ensure locals and destination couples alike have all of the resources they need to ensure a picture perfect “I Do.” With that in mind, we decided to ask wedding professionals from around the city to offer tips for couples planning New Orleans weddings from afar. What do couples need to know the most when planning a Big Easy wedding from another city? What’s the best way for vendors and destination couples to communicate to make sure everything goes off without a hitch?

In each installment of the series, we will chat with professionals from specific areas of the wedding celebration.

First, lets focus on photography.

New Orleans really gives photographers a lot to work with when it comes to wedding photos. “With the exposed brick buildings, the French Quarter balconies, the sound of the brass bands – Why wouldn’t you get married in New Orleans?” says Mike Lirette with Red Leaf Weddings.

For destination couples, just like local couples, it’s always important to secure your photographer early. The Red M Studio says it’s even better to book everything well in advance, including days you are planning to come in to town or any pre-wedding sessions, so they can clear out their schedule to accommodate couples they have yet to meet in person. Both Lirette and Marianne and Steve Sabrier with The Red M offer couples remote options for picking engagement session locations or bridal portraits. Google street view is an easy resource for couples to scout different locations, which Lirette says he uses a lot for destination couples, while many photographers, like the Sabriers, will take your favorite locations or scout locations and send the couple photos.

New Orleans-Bound Part 1

It’s all about communication when it comes to any wedding vendor, but especially the photographer that will be spending a large amount of time with you on your special day. Always do your research and choose the photographer that best matches your personality and style as a couple.

Final Thoughts:

Both Lirette and the Sabriers note for all couples to check a New Orleans events calendar when picking dates for their sessions. This is the only city where an impromptu afternoon parade can interrupt, or make, your photo shoot.
