New Orleans Chef Jeff Mattia To Open Pyre Provisions In Covington

COVINGTON, La (press release) – Chef Jeff Mattia will open the doors of Pyre Provisions next Monday, Nov. 18 at 11a.m. Pyre Provisions will focus on primitive cooking methods – mostly simple fire and wood- to deliver Southern-inspired food that marries a classic American steakhouse with an authentic barbecue restaurant. Add a few daiquiris from the beverage program, and you’ll have the Pyre Provisions experience.

From the thoughtfully planned menus to the bright yet rustic design, the inspiration behind Pyre Provisions is reflective of chef Jeff Mattia’s impressive culinary career, which spans over a quarter century. Pulling from the strengths and highlights along the way, Mattia has assembled a talented team of culinary and hospitality professionals to ensure a special experience from the back of house to the front of house. Chef Justin Cameron will act as Mattia’s Chef de Cuisine, helping to execute delicious and consistent dishes; Mattia’s eldest son, Josh Mattia, who is also a hospitality professional, will oversee the front-of-house operations; and Zoe Leonard will execute an impressive bar program that includes simple cocktail classics, original creations, and a fun selection of frozen daiquiris.

Pyre Provisions’ menus will showcase Mattia’s primitive cooking techniques using the restaurant’s woodfire grills and exterior smoker. And while the dishes are approachable and comforting, they also showcase Mattia’s precision – a precision that uses natural spices, wood, and fire to emphasize the inherent flavors of the ingredients, creating a truly unique take on Southern-inspired food.

The interior pays homage to the restaurant’s most coveted cooking staple, wood. The dining room is flanked with different textures and presentations of wood. White shiplap walls are highlighted by accents of blue that add a vibrancy to the family-friendly concept. Natural wood cuts resembling the rustic wood pile used to fuel the Pyre smoker add depth and interest to the spacious dining room. Custom, local metalwork reaches from floor to ceiling, creating welcomed division between the dining room and bar area. Strategic walls are finished with large-scale, farm animal illustrations by local muralist Julianna Papa, as well as swine-inspired paintings by local artist Charles Rudolph. Lively and fun, the interiors also respect the earth’s components that make Pyre Provisions possible.

Following a weekend of pre-opening festivities, Pyre Provisions will open its doors to the public on Monday, Nov. 18 at 11a.m. Reservations can be made by calling 978-340-2250 or via OpenTable. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Pyre Provisions will be open Monday 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Tuesday – Friday, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.; Sunday Brunch, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
