In only seven years, New Orleans East Hospital has gone from being the new name in town to serving as a community and economic anchor in Eastern New Orleans. The first full-service hospital in this region since Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans East Hospital today employs over 120 physicians dedicated to improving the health of patients in New Orleans East, Gentilly, St. Bernard, and the Lower Ninth Ward. The hospital also employs a large and impressive team of nurses, who were recognized this year for their impactful work.
At the 2021 Nightingale Awards and Gala presented by the Louisiana State Nurses Association, New Orleans East Hospital was designated as “Hospital of the Year (60 Beds or Fewer)” for having demonstrated concern for nursing values and recognition of registered nursing achievements within the organization. According to the award’s presenter, New Orleans East Hospital is special and successful because of its impact on professional nursing care.

Despite its youth as an organization, New Orleans East Hospital has remained a leader in maintaining national and statewide standards for healthcare while pioneering a genuine approach to targeting the most vulnerable communities in healthcare.
In 2021, the hospital was recognized nationally by the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary, Marcia Fudge, for being the first hospital in the United States to partner with HUD in providing COVID-19 testing and vaccinations. Throughout the pandemic, New Orleans East Hospital has been at the forefront of serving black and brown communities with inventive concepts such as Good Friday Fish Fry Vaccination events and a partnership with New Orleans public schools to administer vaccines to teachers.
