This time of year when people ask me what I’ve been up to, instead of telling them about the latest concert or festival I’ve attended, or dinner with friends, or about my husband is defending his dissertation on Thursday (fingers crossed!), I find myself telling them excitedly about someone doing incredible things in New Orleans who I learned about when researching possible People to Watch (New Orleans Magazine’s September issue); or about the incredibly luxurious wedding I read about in St. Charles Avenue’s Weddings Issue (August); or the heart wrenching cases some of New Orleans’ Best Doctors tell (New Orleans Magazine’s August issue).
You see, every month I work on two magazines in the Renaissance Publishing group: New Orleans Magazine and St. Charles Avenue (also available are: Acadiana Profile; Louisiana Life, New Orleans Bride, New Orleans Homes & Lifestyles and a host of others published on a contract basis for companies such as the New Orleans Ballet Association). They are both are finalized about the same time, and as soon as one month is done the next is already in progress. Our summer issues are some of my favorites; at the same time I’ve been exploring a feature on specialty dining (NOM June issue), researching amazingly accomplished local women (NOM July issue), learning abut new places to shop along Metairie Road (Avenue July), discovering a new favorite happy hour (Avenue July issue) and so much more.
So if you find yourself hot, sweating and looking to learn more about New Orleans and the people who live in it, pick up a copy or visit MyNewOrleans.com, find a comfortable air-conditioned spot and start reading. You might be surprised at what you find yourself telling your friends about the next time you get together.
