NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The New Orleans Public Library will celebrate the publication of “Renewed: Volume 3” with a book launch party at Main Library on Jan. 31 from 2-4 p.m. The anthology features local writers who entered the library’s 2025 Summer Fun Adult Writing Contest.
This is the anthology’s third year in publication. Each of the book’s 10 short stories and 10 poems were finalists in last summer’s contest, which featured “harmony” as a theme. Librarian Rachel Bailey manages the adult programming department, leading humanities, health and legal initiatives for adults across the Library system – including the writing contest and anthology.
“’Renewed’ is a project very near and dear to our hearts. Each year, it is so exciting for us to amplify and celebrate a new group of local writers with our community,” said Bailey. “Our adult programming librarian, Shelby Goddard, shows a commitment to literary excellence year-round, not only through her work on ‘Renewed,’ but also by planning author talks and writing workshops. We love any opportunity to uplift our writing community and cannot wait to share this new volume with the public.”
City Librarian & Executive Director Emily Painton said the “Renewed” project directly aligns with the library’s mission to preserve and reflect the rich culture of our city.
“With the continued publication of this anthology, the library is signaling our commitment to uplifting and supporting our city’s creative communities, as well as to preserve our history and culture as it is happening,” said Painton. “As we add volumes every year, we record a snapshot of our city’s voices, which we hope will help strengthen future understandings of New Orleans, its people, and the city over time.”
The Friends of the New Orleans Public Library helped sponsor the book’s publication and launch party, which executive director Shannan Cvitanovic said “amplifies and encourages local voices and stories.”
“I can’t think of a better place than the Library for supporting both creative talent and for creating community, which is, in essence, what the “Renewed” project does,” said Cvitanovic. “Publishing this book is a cause for celebration, and I am proud to have the Friends support it.”
Book launch attendees will receive a free copy of “Renewed,” as supplies last. Volume 3 will be available to check out from the Library starting Jan. 31. The event will include readings, refreshments, music, giveaway books, and more. Main Library is located at 219 Loyola Ave. Visit nolalibrary.org for details.
