NEW ORLEANS (press release) – While the season of Lent is about reflection, moderation and giving up indulgences, New Orleanians do not have to sacrifice good food and drinks to do so. NOLA’s top restaurants, Chefs and bartenders are offering a variety of Lenten specials, certain to make your Fridays meatless and your palate happy.
BYWATER AMERICAN BISTRO
Food: Fried Gulf Oysters with oyster gravy and jasmine rice; spaghetti pomodoro; farro risotto with Maitake mushroom and minted bread crumbs; smoked ricotta agnolotti; steamed red snapper with broccoli rabe and crystal hollandaise.
Where: Bywater American Bistro is located at 2900 Chartres Street in New Orleans.
Food: lobster lasagna; jumbo lump crab with leche de tigre, coconut milk and heirloom tomatoes; and Louisiana Gulf stew with crab, shrimp, oysters and calas.
Drink: Cup ‘O Sunshine – Pineapple and grapefruit shrub, grapefruit juice, Gose syrup, soda
Where: Toups South is located inside of the Southern Food and Beverage Museum at 1504 Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard in New Orleans.
Food: Rotating Friday specials including Louisiana shrimp and scallops with jasmine rice, kimchi carrots and a gochujang and ginger butter sauce.
Drink: Take Flight – butterfly pea tea with cranberry and orange bitters, and a rotating fresh soda (currently pineapple)
Where: Toups’ Meatery is located at 845 North Carrollton Avenue in New Orleans.
Food: Executive Chef Mike Brewer has created Lent menus for lunch, brunch and dinner with specialties such as herb roasted mushroom pasta, Gulf fish bouillabaisse, jumbo lump crab deviled eggs and the Impossible Burger – plant-based patty with gruyere, butter lettuce and heirloom tomatoes.
