NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The New Orleans Sacred Music Festival returns for its eighth year on Saturday, March 22, at the New Orleans Healing Center (2372 St. Claude Ave.). This free event, on hiatus since COVID-19, is a unique celebration of spiritual music, art, and food from around the world.
The festival opens with a Peace Walk at 10 a.m., gathering at St. Roch Park, followed by the main event at the New Orleans Healing Center from 12 p.m. onwards.
Attendees can expect an immersive experience featuring a diverse lineup of performers, including:
- The Drepung Gomang Monks
- John Boutte
- Mantra Music with Sean Johnson and The Wild Lotus Band
- Vodou Ceremony with La Source Ancienne Ounfo
- New Orleans Zen Temple Choir with Buddhist Chants
- Tonya Boyd’s Youth Choir
- King Sia, New Orleans Own D. Strong, Sonny D504, Aysakshi Kewe, and more with Gorealla Strong
- Muslim Call to Prayer
- Hindu Fire Sacrifice with Yogindra Vandana Das
- Andrew Wiseman and Ewe Ensemble
Organizers say the New Orleans Sacred Music Festival aims to harness the power of sacred music to heal, uplift and awaken the profound connections that run through our diverse cultures and communities.
In addition to the music, the festival will feature the Drepung Gomang Monks, who will be creating a World Peace sand mandala on March 22 and 23 in the Grand Hall. Opening ceremony will be at 9:00 am Saturday, March 22nd and closing ceremony will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 23.
Other attractions include sacred altars created by interfaith artists, a market with goods from around the world, and a variety of food and craft vendors.
