New Orleans, The Best Place for a Staycation

Whether a honeymoon or a pre-wedding staycation, New Orleans tops the list.

When brides and grooms take a vacation, it’s typically in celebration after their “I Dos.” But as wedding traditions continue to evolve and change, why should you wait to celebrate becoming newlyweds?

Personal finance website WalletHub released a report this week sharing the best and worst cities for a staycation. New Orleans, with no surprise, made the list of best cities for a staycation, with an overall rank of No. 9.

“To determine the best places for a fun-filled yet wallet-friendly staycation, WalletHub compared more than 180 cities across 42 key metrics,” said WalletHub writer Adam McCann in his article about the list. “Our data set ranges from parks and museums per capita to restaurant costs.”

Some of the cities mentioned on the list make sense – New Orleans, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Chicago. But the No. 1 overall best place to staycation was a surprise… Orlando, Florida.

Kelly here: anyone else singing “Book of Mormon?” But, as someone that just came back from the Disney side of Orlando, this was definitely a surprise.

Throughout the 42 metrics (with a rank of 1 being the best and 91 being average) New Orleans ranked first in bike rental facilities per capita and, no surprise here, nightlife options per capita. Probably also not surprisingly, New Orleans ranked 90th in idealness of summer weather.

All of this to us just proves New Orleans is one of the best cities in the world.

And in the spirit of New Orleans being the best staycation spot to those outside of the city, the editors of Renaissance Publishing recently shared their picks for the best staycation spots around the Big Easy. A few of our favorites include Hotel Saint Vincent for some luxurious rest and relaxation – with a side of social media-worthy moments – and spots like The Pontchartrain and Hotel Monteleone that are full of history and have been staples in the city for decades.

No matter where you choose to stay or what you choose to do, spending a little time for you and your loved one in the city that is sure to recharge and refresh you during your planning is always a good idea.
