As a city that is a leader for original creativity, New Orleans shines whether or not the spotlight is on it.
On Jan. 9, that spotlight shone brightly when A Night of Gratitude and Grit: New Orleans Tourism and Cultural Foundation Honors Eight Cultural Visionaries took place at Mardi Gras World.
“Our honorees represent the full spectrum of New Orleans’ creative legacy — from culture bearers who have spent a lifetime shaping the city’s story to emerging artists who are redefining what comes next,” said Lisa Alexis, president and CEO of the foundation.
This year’s honorees included:
• Lifetime Achievement: Carol Bebelle
• Emerging Artist: Cierra Chenier
• Established Artist, Culinary Arts: Arkesha Baquet
• Established Artist, Design: Laron Quinn Nelson
• Established Artist, Entertainment: Raj Smoove
• Established Artist, Literary Arts & Humanities: Johnette Downing
• Established Artist, Preservation: Jonn E. Hankins
• Established Artist, Visual Arts & Crafts: Gus Bennett
In addition to celebrating the 2026 luminaries, guests could also enjoy the talents of culinary stars — chefs and restaurants such as Fritai, with Chef Charly Pierre; Lüke; Orleans Brothers; Wonderland Catering, with Chef Tori Nero and Graze Dat — and stellar entertainment from Big Sam, Alexi Marti, Hasizzle, Dawn Richard and Raj Smoove.
