Shannon Landis Hansen is the artist who created the unique Katrina monument in City Park. Some might call the towering artwork — visible from City Park Avenue — a mosaic, but Shannon considers it a mosaic assemblage. The sculpture evokes the shape of an old New Orleans doorway mounted on disintegrating steps. Some of the elements came from altars people created on the steps of their devastated homes after Hurricane Katrina.
