NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Beginning Jan. 6, also known as King’s Day, King Cake Drive-Thru will offer a curated selection of Greater New Orleans’ king cakes at your convenience throughout the Mardi Gras season. It will be located at Duckworth Tires’ parking lot, 1009 Metairie Rd., Metairie, Louisiana, 70005.
Chicago-born transplant to New Orleans, Mike Graves, owner of bof bars, a local novelty ice cream company, came up with this idea with his fiancée.
“If New Orleans can do drive-thru daiquiris, it surely can do a King Cake Drive-Thru,” says Graves.
As the 2024 Carnival season drew closer, plans began to form over the holidays, and King Cake Drive-Thru was born. Metairie was chosen specifically to hopefully provide a willing neighborhood accessibility to many different bakeries across the Greater New Orleans area.
A community driven business, King Cake Drive-Thru is not just for the well-known bakery names but also a platform for businesses without their own store-front, as well as up-and-coming bakers.
Expect king cakes from local favorites such as Gambino’s, Brennan’s, Gracious Bakery and Bittersweet Confections. Other lesser known but equally delicious king cakes include Clesi’s Crawfish King Cakes, Empanola’s Guava Cream Cheese King Cakes, Kimi Bakes King Cake Cream Puffs, Vietnamese Doughnguyener’s King Cakes and so much more for the weekly rotating menu.
Other convenience items will be offered such as a party pack complete with plates, napkins, utensils and a king cake knife for on-the-go use.
Graves emphasizes, “Keep your kids in the car. Don’t worry about parking. Pull up and head out. You can grab a favorite or snag a new king cake on the way to the office or on the way home for the family.”
Plans for another King Cake Drive-Thru pop-up location in Houston, Texas is in the works for later in the Mardi Gras season.
