One of the great things about our town is the large number of exciting things to do to celebrate the new year – here are a few of the best.
Veteran funksters Galactic are having their usual New Years blow out at Tipitina’s. This year they are joined by Walter “Wolfman” Washington. This will be a special show for Galactic as they announced earlier this month that they were purchasing Tipitina’s – so the club we’ve always really thought of as Galactic’s house is now officially theirs. This is a great moment for New Orleans music and should make the celebration especially poignant.
If you’re looking to go the deluxe route, your best bet is the Big Night New Orleans – New Years Eve Gala at the Hyatt. This is one of the biggest all inclusive parties in the city. Your ticket gets you music on multiple stages from the likes of Cowboy Mouth, Cha Wa and Amanda Shaw – all of your drinks are included and they have multiple dining options to choose from. One of the things I love about this party is its sheer size, the scope of a party taking up the entire public space of the Hyatt makes the evening feel momentous.
If you’re heading down to the Quarter there are a number of stops you can make. Boyfriend is holding court at One Eyed Jacks with Maty Noyes – this will be a great show. Dick Clarke’s New Years Rockin Eve returns to Jax Brewery with Christina Aguilera and guests. Of course, the city’s big party kicks off in Jackson Square with fireworks over the river. If you want to beat the crowds you can catch a fireworks cruise on the Steamboat Natchez or check out the Party at the Westin hotel which has the Bucktown Allstars playing and a great view of the river.
Whatever you do this week have a safe and happy New Year. There is so much to see and do you can’t really go wrong. Get out there and make the end of 2018 the best part of the year.
