The wedding cake is a tradition ranking up there with something borrowed, something blue. But what happens if one or both of the soon-to-be wed don’t care for cake? The “Let Them Eat Cake” crew can’t fathom a distaste for our favorite, moist, sweet treat, but it is possible to dislike cake. Even anti-cake-ers deserve a show stopping wedding dessert, so we’ve compiled a few alternatives to consider for your Big Day bash.
S’more’s Bar
- Jill Mercer of Cedar Grove Tchoupitoulas Plantation reception hall said she incorporated a s’more’s bar into her menu after a recent bride requested one. It was so popular with the wedding guests and brought playful flair to the rustic outdoor spaces. Also, Mercer provides small, clear bags so the guests can take the treat home. It’s a fun alternative and can double as a tasty wedding favor. Add a cute bag with a monogram or some other design and your wedding favors are set.
- Locally owned, Blue Dot Donuts can fill your wedding guests hands with glazed goodness. Instead of tiers of cake, display tiers of donuts right on your dessert table. This is also a delicious late-night snack to send home with your guests.
- Bulk orders with customizable toppings and flavors are available upon request.
Fudge
- For those with a keen sweet tooth, consider fudge. There are endless flavor, shape and topping combinations to create a flavor sensation for your reception. The Fudgery at The Riverwalk has myriad options.
Macaroons
- Macaroons are a bite-sized, customizable indulgence that brings together dessert deliciousness and aesthetic value. See our previous “Sweet Treat” post for more macaroon information.
For the health conscious
- Fruit parfaits in champagne glasses: Not every wedding needs sugary treats. If fruit is more your style, pass out individual fruit parfaits to your guests. Add a dollop of yogurt and some garnishes and let your guests create their own. It’s a great way to avoid a sugar crash at the end of the night.
The Breakfast Bunch:
- Cinnamon Roll Cake: Are you having a mid-morning brunch special for your nuptials? Have your baker create a cinnamon roll cake as a breakfast alternative to your wedding cake. This option can be iced and decorated exactly like a wedding cake and is perfectly paired with brunch eats and champagne mimosas.
Lagniappe:
Traditional options:
- Cupcakes
- Cookie Bar
New Orleans themed:
- Praline Tower
- Beignets
Your wedding does not have to consist of a plethora of sugar treats and cake with white icing. A traditional cake can be beautiful and appease to most guests, but if it’s not the favorite of the bride and groom it’s not mandatory. Add your favorite treats and a little customizable option and your guest’s will be happy.
