NOCHI Enlists Adolfo Garcia, Hieu Than & Liz Thorpe for Spring Enthusiast Classes

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute (NOCHI) announces its in-person spring 2022 enthusiast class line-up. Led by beloved chefs and local personalities, NOCHI enthusiast classes take an interactive deep dive into everything from the fundamentals to international cuisine and regional foodways. Enthusiast classes, all open to the public, can even breathe life into your inner sommelier or cheese-monger.

“NOCHI is a home of, by, and for food lovers of all stripes, from budding gourmets to established chefs,” said executive director Leah Sarris. “Our enthusiast classes offer one-of-a-kind opportunities for recreational food lovers to meet and eat with some of our city’s most talented and loved personalities, in the true spirit of breaking bread together and furthering food’s place in New Orleans culture. After a long hiatus, we’re thrilled to once again welcome folks to these in-person experiences.”

The spring 2022 enthusiast class line-up includes:

THE FUNDAMENTALS OF CHEESE WITH LIZ THORPE

There’s a literal world of cheese out there, and this tasting class will fill your proverbial passport. We’ll taste seven styles of cheese while answering FAQs like “Can I eat the rind?” and “What’s the deal with illegal cheese?”

Thursday, March 24 | 6:00-8:00 P.M.

EMPANADAS WITH ADOLFO GARCIA

Join one of NOLA’s most beloved chefs for a lively demonstration dinner. He’ll show us our way around different empanada types and fillings.

Friday, May 6 | 6:00-8:00 P.M.

RAMEN WITH HIEU THAN

Join us for a ramen intensive where Hieu Than (Kin – RIP!) will show the ropes on from-scratch noodles, flavorful broths, and the best condiments.

Saturday, May 21| 6:00-8:00 P.M.

Spring NOCHI enthusiast classes are the first open to the public since March 2020. Tickets are on sale now at nochi.org/enthusiast. Both classes in May have a limited number of seats available at the chef’s counter as well as private tables available in the demonstration space.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, NOCHI has offered, and will continue to offer, private hands-on and virtual classes. In addition, NOCHI also offers certificate programs in culinary arts and baking & pastry arts that cover twenty-five subjects and 650 hours of intensive practical instruction.

As we continue to monitor developments with COVID-19 and the Omicron variant, we first and foremost remain committed to keeping you safe. Our demonstration-style classes and tastings are offered at limited capacity so that everyone gets a front-row seat.

For more information on enthusiast classes or to purchase tickets, visit nochi.org/enthusiast or contact Rémy Robert at remy@nochi.org or 504-635-0017.
