Kirk Coco is founder and president of NOLA Brewing Company. Coco's inspiration to start his own brewery came from two unlikely sources: Hurricane Katrina and Dixie beer, one of New Orleans' traditionally favorite brews. However, the reason Dixie beer inspired Coco to open his own brewery might be surprising. Although Coco began his efforts to build a brewery in June 2006, he did not actually produce his first beer until almost three years later, in March 2009. In today's podcast, Coco explains why he thinks his beer has been successful in New Orleans and beyond the Crescent City, and he describes the rare combination of qualities a brewmaster must possess. According to Coco, a great brewmaster has to be both an artist and a scientist. Listen to the podcast here.
