NOWFE Announces International Wine Competition Results

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The New Orleans Wine & Food Experience has announced the winners of the NOWFE International Wine Competition. Nearly 170 wines from every corner of America and across the globe were represented in 25 categories. Best of Show, Gold, silver, and bronze awards were bestowed on 68 wines based on varietal components and vinification styles (sparkling, still, dry, sweet, pure varietals, screwcaps, corks, bottles, and cans).

Eleven wine experts from New Orleans and an Auburn University culinary department head served on the judging panel. Each judge swirled, sniffed, viewed, and tasted every wine entered in the competition. “We are honored that so many wineries from around the world took place in our wine competition,” said Aimee Brown, NOWFE Executive Director. “And we wish to thank our judges for their time and efforts in making this a success, and also the Four Seasons for hosting us.”

The one day-long exercise of judging each wine was extended to a second day of evaluations, during which all gold award wines were re-evaluated for the top award of Best of Show. The judges chose one red and one white to receive this top billing.

The Best of Show winners are:
White—Gautreau Family Estate Wines Eola-Amity Hills Chardonnay 2020
Red—Flambeaux Wine Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

The state with the highest number of entries was California, which currently reflects wine sales in America. Wines from Oregon, Washington, Virginia, Texas, New Jersey, Connecticut, Louisiana, and Missouri, as well as France, Italy, Austria, and Spain, were represented.

Several participants of the inaugural NOWFE International Wine Competition will offer samples of each wine at Vinola at the Four Seasons on Thursday, June 9, 2-4:30 p.m. and at the Grand Tastings at the Sugar Mill on Friday, June 10, 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, June 11, 2-5 p.m.
