The Children’s Museum of St. Tammany’s Celebration 2011 took on a Dr. Seuss theme this year as the “Celebration of Discovery: Oh, the Places We’ll Geaux!” On March 27, Lori Hosch, Tony Le Mon and Mary Leigh Wolfe chaired the fourth annual event, which raised money to develop the new children’s museum.
Raffles at the event offered extraordinary prizes: One guest won a Kooky Wooky Thing-A-MaJooky Playhouse ($1,800 value), painted to match the Seuss theme; another lucky winner chose between a cash prize of $5,000 and a seven-night vacation either to Hawaii or to Paris and Prague. Celebration 2011 featured live and silent auctions, as well as a children’s lit-themed Silent Book Auction. Rich Mauti served as the auctioneer, and Margaret Orr and Jim Henderson served as emcees.
Along with performances by The Wiseguys and the Northshore High School Jazz Combo, the event featured two student artists, Rosa-Lee Marino from Fontainebleau High School and Sarah Meeker from NOCCA.
Once completed, the 20,000-square-foot children’s museum will provide a stimulating learning environment for children. The Junior League of Greater Covington started this project in 2004, and it’s certainly coming along with the help of each year’s Celebration.
