On the cover

As the holiday season quickly approaches, one of New Orleans’s favorite traditions opens New Orleans City Park to the public: Celebration in the Oaks. This celebration has been a tradition for many residents for the past 23 holiday seasons and can soon be a new tradition for your family.

CEO of New Orleans City Park Robert Becker, Steven and Andrea Hemperly representing sponsor Capital One, New Orleans City Park Board of Commissioners member Tim Lafranca and Celebration in the Oaks Committee and City Park Board of Commissioners member Andrea Legrand appear on our cover to urge you to experience this beautiful holiday event – with a little luck from Mr. Bingle!

This year make sure to hit all of the favorite spots in the Carousel Gardens, which includes the century old Antique Carousel, bumper cars and the favorite Tilt-A-Whirl. There are nightly performances featuring different school choirs and orchestras, Irish dancers and gospel groups to warm your spirit for the holiday season. Romaguera Photography will be available for holiday and Santa photos.

Also, don’t forget to take a ride on the Miniature Train to see all of the beautiful lights and hangings in the park. After the train ride, make way to the City Park Christmas Café to warm yourself with a steamy cup of hot chocolate or a hot buttered rum, both will hit the right spot.

The walking tour opens nightly from December 4-30 at 6 p.m. and stays open until 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday (except for Dec. 24 and 25) For more information, call 483-9415 or visit celebrationintheoaks.com.
