On Saturday, October 9, step into a scene of bluebonnets with the Ogden Museum of Southern Art’s annual O What a Night Gala. Co-chairs Michelle Ogden and Grace Kaynor, as well as T.G. Solomon – who with the Solomon family are this year’s recipients of the Ogden Lifetime Achievement Award – promise an elegant evening complete with a silent auction, cocktails and entertainment. The evening begins with hors d’oeuvres by John Rowland of Southern Hospitality Catering, cocktails and a silent auction of more than 30 pieces of art in the Patrick F. Taylor Library, then moves to the gala dinner where fine wines will be paired with even finer Southern food, live entertainment and a live auction featuring pieces from private collections as well as “Art Experience” packages. This year’s Opus Award will be given in person to actress, artist and collector Jessica Lang for her contributions to the cultural landscape.
Our cover also features Texas artist Robert Julian Onderdonk’s “Bluebonnet Scene with Girl” (1920), from the Permanent Collection of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art/Gift from Roger H. Ogden Collection. This painting is the source of the gala’s theme – continuing Ogden’s celebration of the American South – and is part of the exhibition “Paintings by Robert Julian Onderdonk,” which opens a week before O What a Night on Art for Arts’ Sake, Saturday, October 2. In addition there will be a live auction preview party on Friday, October 8 at the home of Susu and Andrew Stall.
