We all have a soft spot in our hearts for City Park, where 1,300 acres of lush foliage and towering oaks house some of the city’s favorite spots, including the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Botanical Gardens and Big Lake. But it takes more than love to maintain this local paradise, which has seen tough times in the past.

Friends of City Park has made it their duty to ensure that City Park stays strong and beautiful through thick and thin. On Friday, March 2, join chairs Gayle Benson, Margo DuBos and Juli Miller Hart as they host the annual Lark in the Park gala. The evening will also celebrate honorary chair Genevieve Trimble and her dedication to the Botanical Gardens, including her ability to successfully secure a contribution of $50,000 from New York City’s Lord & Taylor in 1987 to refurbish the Rose Garden.

This year marks the premier fundraiser’s 30th year of raising proceeds for the beloved park. Themed “Lark Makes a Grand Entrance,” the gala will fund the creation of a new entrance for the Botanical Garden and Storyland, in order to bring about the “dawning of a new era in welcoming visitors to City Park,” says City Park CEO Bob Becker.

Festivities will commence with an elegant patron party held at City Park followed by the anniversary gala, complete with entertainment, fare supplied by a variety of local restaurants and a “one-of-a-kind” live auction.

Tickets and information are available at FriendsOfCityPark.com or by calling 483-9376.

Special thanks to Dessa Giffin and Mrs. Benson for the gracious usage of her home.
