The Louisiana Children’s Museum has played a significant role in education and community outreach in New Orleans since its opening in 1986. With field trips, birthday parties and charity events, the museum has been enriching the lives of children and adults alike. Its core principles include reaching children at their most critical years of development, fostering relationships between children and their families and connecting learning with fun. Through continuous support from the community, the museum is able to maintain their well-established programs as well as create new, stimulating activities.
For this purpose, the LCM opens its big blue doors for its largest fundraising event, “CHAIRish the Children,” each August. This popular event is aptly named for the one-of-a-kind whimsical chairs from local artists and organizations that are auctioned off at the gala. 2012 marks the event’s 14th year – and it’s stronger than ever. Featured on our cover are LCM Board President Jennifer Couvillon with co-chairs Gina McMahon and Maria Huete with Mark Boucree, Vice President of Community Development Banking for the event’s title sponsor, Capital One.
The event will take place on Saturday, August 25, at the LCM at 420 Julia St. The museum will be transformed into a magical carnival, and guests will be treated to delicious food and spirits from more than 20 of New Orleans’ best restaurants. The chairs will be available with artwork, jewelry, travel packages and other fascinating items in both silent and live auctions. There will also be exciting games, entertainment and more!
Tickets are available through the Louisiana Children’s Museum by calling 266-2415 or visiting lcm.org.
