NEW ORLEANS (press release) – One Book One New Orleans (OBONO) is proud to announce the establishment of the Patty Friedmann Writing Competition. Named for prolific New Orleans author Patty Friedmann, the annual competition will be made possible by a gift from her children, Esme Roberson and Werner Friedmann II.
“We want to honor our mother’s fiction by rewarding writers who show great promise,” says Roberson.
“We are honored to become a part of the literary legacy Patty Friedmann has created,” says OBONO Executive Director Dr. Megan Holt. “We look forward to celebrating the work of emerging writers for years to come.”
The competition will present its winners at OBONO’s festival, Words & Music, held each year in November. Winners will receive a cash prize, a reading at the festival, and publication in The Peauxdunque Review, OBONO’s partner in administering the competition.
The inaugural competition reading and awards presentation will take place on Friday, Nov. 18, at 12:30 p.m. at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum. Visit wordsandmusic.org for more information.
