This weekend provides Acadiana residents with the opportunity to check out events they might have not seen the first time around or try something totally new in a one-time experience! The weekend, there’s a moms-only scavenger hunt on the southside, as well as a collaboration between Basin Dance Collective and one of Lafayette’s favorite restaurants, Central Pizza + Bar. The annual Big Brother’s Big Sister’s murder mystery dinner fundraiser will have to showings this weekend as well, plus more!
8/21: Downtown Lunch & Learn Safety Summit: This Wednesday from 11:30-1:30 p.m., Downton Lafayette and The Acadiana Advocate invite business owners, stakeholders and residents to the St. John the Evangelist church to hear from the Lafayette Police Department on issues of safety, policing and crime downtown. Attendees will be able to mean sergeants of the new downtown police detail and get to know the policies and strategies that LPD plans on implementing. This event is free for DLU members. Attendance is $12 for non-members. Tickets are available via Eventbrite.
8/22: The Listening Room at The Pearl Singer/Songwriter Series: Every week, The Pearl hosts a local singer/songwriter to showcase their talents in a quiet setting. Past performers include Derrick Savoie, Sabra Guzman and Lane Mack. Show begins at 8 p.m. This event is ongoing and free to the public! If you’re looking for a less boisterous setting to catch a live show, this is a safe bet.
8/23: Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre: Big Brothers Big Sisters’ annual Murder Mystery Dinner fundraiser opens Friday night at 6 p.m.! Each ticket includes a three-course inner by Joey’s of Lafayette and two Mystery Tito’s Cocktails. The mystery entails the opening of the Tonylou Awards, complete with a gossip columnist, has-been diva, new starlets and other suspicious characters. There will also be a cash bar, and a live and silent auction. Another performance will follow Saturday at 6 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person and are available for purchase here.
8/24: Where’s Momma? A Mom’s Night Out: Southfin Lafayette presents this unique, mom’s-only scavenger hunt at 5 p.m Saturday! Teams of five will be organized then given their first clue. The teams will scavenge throughout Park Lafayette and River Ranch. Each stop has a surprise. Moms can look forward to making new friends, having lots of fun, and discovering great finds. The scavenger hunt ends at Southfin, where everyone gets a goodie bag filled with items from local businesses. Dinner and drinks will be waiting for you after the scavenger hunt!
8/25: EatLafayette’s Chef’s Table – Sport Suites Eats: Central Pizza + Bar will host this one-night only event. Choreographer Clare Cook will bring a teaser performance of Basin Dance Collective’s upcoming show, Sports Suites, in an immersive performance. Expect communal seating to enhance the sporting event vibe, as well as a cash bar. Chef Clair Burton has a specially curated menu for the event. Tickets are available via Eventbrite.
