Oyster Fest and Shilpa Ray

Shilpa Ray

Tomorrow night Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter/poet/punk Shilpa Ray will drop into the Santos Bar.  After stints performing with Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Grinderman and Sharon Van Etten, Ray released the excellent Last Year’s Savage in 2015 and the phenomenal Door Girl last year.  This record is a phrenetic trip through styles and genres that are ultimately tied together by Ray’s wry humor and exquisite voice.  One of the things I really like about Ray’s work is her unwillingness to suffer fools.  There is no time for the superficial or the willfully unaware in her world.  These folks are dismissed as mere impediments to actual connection and experience.  This will we a wonderfully intimate performance.  Check out the video for “Morning Terrors Nights of Dread” below.
