Ordinary essentials may be the last thing on your list when packing for your honeymoon. But experts like board certified dermatologist Dr. Elizabeth Foley Bucher, a New Orleans native, reminds us that keeping our skin safe from the sun should be an everyday goal—even on your honeymoon. “Slather on more than you think you need and follow the instructions,” she told us in an interview last year. She points out that the “best sunscreen is one you like and that you’ll use.” Even if it’s not sunny, you can burn,” she warns. “If you can see your shadow, you can get sun damage.” So, honeymooners: save room in your suitcase for plenty of sunscreen. While you may be able to buy an extra bottle when you reach your destination, don’t count on it. Finding a pharmacy or department near your hotel isn’t always as easy—and who wants to take the time? While resort boutiques often sell sunscreen, they’ll be priced high and may not be the kindest to your skin.
