Paracords, But Make It Fashion

What is it about survival that inspires fashion? Is it a connection to our animal instincts and desire to explore the unknown? Perhaps it’s a lingering hero complex or just innocent nostalgia for summer camp? Whatever it may be, clothing and accessory designers have been tapping into the visual expression of survival equipment for decades, nay centuries, intentionally using materials you might need for say, climbing a mountain or sky diving. In particular, paracord and climbing rope have hit the scene hard in recent seasons. This season, Prada adorned handbags and footwear with jute and rope detailing and likewise Miu Miu offered up bags and bag charms made with paracord. Inspired by a friend of a friend’s recent Substack entry featuring this Dorsey paracord necklace, I set out to find a few rope and cord accessories right here in New Orleans. Who knows when they might be useful?
