NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Red Bull DIY supports skateboarding communities across the South by revamping local skateparks. With the help of Red Bull and fundraising support from the community of almost $50,000, New Orleans’ Parasite Skatepark was able to add a brand-new peanut-shaped pool for skaters to enjoy.
The DIY project has also allowed local skaters in New Orleans (and other cities such as Nashville and Birmingham) to donate their old decks and skateboard parts to be revitalized, redesigned, and given out to others in need of new gear.
To celebrate the new build, all local skaters are invited to New Orleans’ Red Bull DIY Jam Day to skate the upgraded park.
Pro skateboarder Chris Russell will be there to skate alongside locals during Jam Day. He is best known for scoring big at bowl and transition contests and making headlines for his progressive video parts. He will be available for interviews upon request.
Anyone involved in the New Orleans skate scene is invited to DIY Jam Day to skate, donate an old board or check out the refurbished park. There will also be music and mini-contests hosted by Humidity Skate Shop throughout the afternoon to help celebrate the re-opening.
Winners of those mini-contests will receive limited edition skate decks designed by infamous local artist REZNOR as prizes.
