Partnering up for Parkway

Over 300 friends of Parkway Partners gathered in Gallier Hall on October 30 for the “Feast With the Stars” jazz brunch, held annually in support of eco-friendly lifestyles in New Orleans. In the spirit of the imminent holiday, Parkway enthusiasts enjoyed the festivities in costume and spooky attire amidst eerie décor arranged throughout the hall. Mario, Princess Peach, Cleopatra and several witches and warlocks were reportedly spotted reveling among guests and feasting on foods from 20 local restaurants, including Zea, Le Foret, Deanie’s Seafood and Houston’s. The cuisine was presented in combination with an array of cocktails.

Parkway presented the Green Spirit Award to two especially bright stars, Marianne and Alan Mumford. The two have executed an unwavering commitment and passion for the city’s appearance through their numerous horticultural projects, which include: landscaping and maintaining the neutral grounds at St. Charles and Carrollton avenues; designing and installing the Cancer Survivor’s Plaza; working at Jackson Square; and chairing the effort to transform the Latter Library grounds into lavish gardens.

Together, the partnership of Parkway supporters raised $45,000 to benefit the organization. Proceeds will go towards schoolyard gardens, neutral ground adoptions and community gardens. The Feast also launched tree-planting season and some time before March, Parkway hopes to plant its 10,000th tree since Hurricane Katrina.
