Who doesn’t love a good holiday party? If you’re anything like me, you’re down for a theme, and Christmas-themed parties leading up to New Year’s Eve are the best. Before we delve into holiday celebrations with our families, there are tons of ways to celebrate the holidays with your friends! Here are five ways to get into the holiday spirit before you try not to argue with Uncle Whatever at the dinner table.
12/13: Invasion of the Santas Christmas Crawl: Social Entertainment puts a festive spin on their bar crawls this Friday with the return of the Santa Christmas Crawl! Don your Santa suit and hat to dash down Jefferson Street and sip Shiner Bock and Shiner Holiday Cheer. Santas will register at Jefferson St. Pub from 5-7:30 p.m., and will then make their way to The Greenroom, Marley’s Tula Tacos & Amigos and finally Legends. This is a rain or shine event. Tickets are available here.
12/13: Acadiana Animal Aid Open House: Acadiana Animal Aid’s 10-acre property will once again welcome the public to a holiday open house! The third annual event will feature a candy cane trail, Santa, and complimentary lunch, coffee and cocoa with the cats. A special reading of Kitty Litterature entails a storytelling experience of “The Polar Express.” Adoptable cats will, of course, make it incredibly difficult to leave. The cutest party of the year runs from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
12/14: Comics & Coffee: Reve Coffee Roasters will host a free mini comic book convention featuring some of Acadiana’s premier contributors to the comic book world, along with some international names. This Saturday from 5-8 p.m., writers, artists, and designers from Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Webtoon and more will showcase and sign their work. Illustrators and designers looking to talk comics and visual art are welcome to hang, too. Guests include Kody Chamberlain, a Lafayette native who has contributed to HALO, “Deadpool” and more, graphic designer Burt Durand and Tone Rodriguez, whose works can be seen on “The Simpsons.”
12/14: Saturday at The Alamo: A bombastic holiday party that combines live music and an art market will come to The Alamo during ArtWalk this Saturday evening! Shop local vendors Cobra Club Vintage, artist Cayla Zeek’s Mattea’s Hand, photographer Olivia Perillo’s Indigo Light Studios, and much more for unique gifts that directly benefit the local economy. DJ Michele Colon will spin before Kelli Jones and Megan Constantin take the stage, followed by Sabra & Her Latin Playboys. Fresh food from Porch, Wine, and Gravy will be available! Entry is $12, cash only, and the party begins at 8 p.m.
12/14: Poguetry: The Lost Bayou Ramblers will join Pogues members Spider Stacy and Cait O’riordan for a special show featuring music from the English punk band. The collaboration is part of an ongoing series of concerts combining the Ramblers flair with the songs crafted by Stacy and O’riordan. The act will take the stage at The Pearl at 9 p.m.
