Area shelters are full and have begun rejecting incoming dogs. Euthanasia is the next step. Trampled Rose Rescue and Rehab (TRR) removes as many dogs as possible from kill shelters and fosters them through an area network of volunteer foster homes until permanent homes can be established. It an amazing organization that does a world of good with an all-volunteer staff on very little funding. I should know, I have two TRR puppies.

TRR is a New Orleans area 501(c)(3) non-profit and supplies all food, meds, crates, and supplies to those fostering on their behalf. Fosters are also matched with dogs of their preferences for age, size, and sex to ensure a good fit. Please go to this site if you can help: trampledroserescue.com/foster. The organization hosts events for foster animals and asks that the foster parent either attend the adoption events or allow someone with the organization to pick up the dogs for the adoption event. Fostering can be as short as a week or up to few months depending on the pup. The person fostering the pet should be at least 21 years old.

Please do what you can. Everyone, dog or otherwise, deserves a second chance at a loving home and a good life.

Crawfish Bread Popover | Photo by Sam Hanna

Next Tuesday at noon I will be in the kitchen at Commander’s Palace with Chef Meg Bickford for an in-person tutorial on how to make her sensational crawfish bread. It’s a tricky recipe but shortcuts are provided. The recipe is in the current installment of my  column, The NOSH, for New Orleans magazine. If that crawfish bread looks good enough for inclusion in your Easter dinner the recipe is in the link above. Join us here on Tuesday at noon.
